INDIANA-- It's not necessary. The State Board of Education voted to allow Indiana school districts to hire teachers without teaching degrees. Outgoing state Superintendent, Tony Bennett, supports the changes. Bennett says the schools are not bound by these rules: "If school leaders want to hire ineffective teachers, theyre accountable for that through our A-to F meansurements. At the end of the day, theyre accountable." Supporters disagreed with claims that it could hurt teacher quality.
