NATIONAL

WASHINGTON-- There's 30 days left for Democrats and Republicans to agree on how to avoid the "fiscal cliff." On Saturday President Barack Obama insisted that a lower rate be offered to those making less than 250 thousand dollars a year. But, the GOP says he's really planning a tax increase double the size and billions of dollars in new stimulus spending.

FAITH

WASHINGTON-- Today could be the day..The Supreme Court could act on the gay marriage issue. They were expected to take it up on Friday, but justices took up other cases instead. The Supreme Court faces the argument that the institution of marriage should be redefined.

NEWS YORK-- The U.S. Military Academy at West Point New York hosted its first same-sex weddings over the last two weekends. Both were held in historic campus landmarks. New York legalized same-sex marriage last year, only months before the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy was repealed allowing gays to serve openly in the military.

INDIANAPOLIS-- Indy's new Archbishop will be installed today. Catholic church officials will hold a Mass of Installation for Joseph Tobin. He will become the 6th Archbishop for the Indianapolis Archdiocese.

STATE/REGIONAL

INDIANA-- Family and friends said goodbye Sunday to an Indiana National Guard Unit. A departure ceremony was held for the soldiers. The unit will spend several weeks at Fort Bliss in Texas before shipping out to Afghanistan.

INDIANAPOLIS-- It was a busy weekend for Indianapolis firefighters. They spent Saturday night battling vacant house fires across the city. Four homes were damaged through the overnight hours. Indy officials are still investigating the blaze.

NORTHERN INDIANA/SOUTHWEST MI, (MICHIANA)

MISHAWAKA-- A new restaurant has hired more than 180 employees in Mishawaka. The Golden Corral opened at 11 am today on the southeast corner of North Main Street and Douglas Road. It's known for its large buffest.

ST. JOSEPH-- Looking for a part-time job this winter? St. Joseph County Parks are looking for people to work with upcoming winter sports. Applications are due December 7th though, you can get one by going to the Parks Department website.

MICHIGAN-- A helicopter with two men aboard crashed in West Michigan on Saturday. Authorities say the pilot lost his life and the passenger was taken to a hospital for injuries. It happened near Walkerville and about 55 miles northwest of Grand Rapids. The crash is still under investigation.

MICHIGAN-- A Michigan State University poll has found an increase in support for gay marriage in Michigan. The report shows that 56 percent of adults said they support same-sex unions. On the other hand, opposition to gay marriage stood at 39% in this year's poll. Two years ago, 51% said they opposed while 48% supported it.

NORTHCENTRAL INDIANA

GREENSBURG-- Investigators are on the scene of a fatal plane crash in Greensburg. Four people lost their lives when the plane fell near the fairgrounds Sunday night. It's not clear if the fog was a playing factor.

NEW CASTLE-- The Pennsyvlania parents of five children found in the back of a moving truck on Wednesday have pleaded not guilty. Police found the five kids in the back of the truck along with several unsecured boxes, 15 cats, and a gas can. The Detjen‘s were both sentenced to two years on probation.
------------------------------
ELWOOD-- Four juveniles, including the son of the Elwood Mayor, are scheduled to appear in court this week in connection with a large fire that rolled through the former State Plating plant Friday night. More than 30 fire departments from Madison County and the surrounding areas responded to the fire. There were no injuries.

TERRE HAUTE-- A former Vigo County police chief is wanted for questioning in an illegal deer kill. Indiana Conservation officers are searching for former West Terre Haute Police Chief Mark Arnold. Information on Arnold‘s whereabouts should be directed to Indiana Conservation Officers central dispatch center.

SPORTS

SOUTH BEND-- The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will face Alabama for the National Championship. The Crimson Tide beat Georgia 32-28 on Saturday to advance to the BCS Title game January 7th against the Irish. Notre Dame will look to capture the national title for the first time since 1988.

MUNCIE-- Ball State's Rick Majerus has left a lasting legacy. The 64 year old former coach of the men's basketball team passed away over the weekend. Majerus coached the Cardinals to the second round of the NC double A tournament in 1989 and had a winning record of 43-17 in his two seasons in Muncie. He stepped down from the basketball program ealier this year due to health issues.

Today ... some areas of drizzle before noon, but it will overall be a beautiful warm day for December.. cloudy, near 65. Tuesday ...more showers possible, High near 53. And Wednesday ... Sunny, around 40 degrees.

Kokomo / Walton / Cass:
Today ... Areas of drizzle before noon, near 69. Tuesday ... Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 8am, then a chance of showers between 8am and 2pm. High near 57. Wednesday ... Sunny, with a high near 39.
