MISHAWAKA-– Local firefighters say the September chemical spill and fire at the Baycote site that forced the evacuations of hundreds of people in Mishawaka was a fluke. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the fire happened after a contractor put chemicals too close together at the site.
