Don't be surprised if you spend more this holiday season.. The National Retail Federation, says sales during the winter holiday period in November and December are expected to rise 4.1 percent this year. That's more than a percentage point lower than the growth in each of the past 2 years.

San Fransisco's Catholic Community got a new leader Thursday..He's well known for fighting against same-sex marriage. Bishop Salvatore Cordileone will be leading more than 500 thousand Catholics in the largely gay-friendly area. Cordileone led church support for the 2008 ban on gay marriage.

It's a simple picture, but it says a lot about U.S officials. A photo of four Texas firefighters praying at a restaurant has gone viral on Facebook. In just two days, the photo received more than 60 thousand likes. The photo simply captures a moment these officials share before their meals.

STATE/REGIONAL

Indiana health officials want to warn you about an outbreak of a rare type of (fun-gul) fungal meningitis. 30 people have become sick in six states, and five have died from the outbreak. Officials say it's linked to a spinal steroid injection to control back pain. Six health care facilities that received the product are in Evansville, Fort Wayne, Elkhart, South Bend, Terre Haute and Columbus.

It might be a work in progress, but it looks like legislators will make changes to the law for people with criminal backgrounds who are struggling to find a job. Currently, the state law allows third parties to keep criminal background information, which is searched by employers. The problem is that the date is sometimes out of date.

Catholic Hoosiers spent time praying for a missing Indiana priest Thursday. Reverend Christiaan Kappes was staying in Athens Greece earlier this week..Relatives of the priest tell several sources that Kappes called his family before leaving and told them if they didn't hear back from him within 12-24 hrs, then he would be in danger.

We're entering cooler tempts, but you should still protect yourself from the West Nile Virus. Health officials confirmed a 6th person has passed due to the virus right here in Indiana. They say to continue using bug spray with D-E-E-T, specially if you spent a lot of time outdoors.

NORTHERN INDIANA/SOUTHWEST MI, (MICHIANA)

A Chapel is about to settle next to an abortion clinic in South Bend. Bishop Kevin Rhodes recently gave the "okay" to organizers of the chapel. So now, they've begun raising money to renovate a building right next to the Women's Pavilion. The proposed site is on Ironwood Circle.

The city of South Bend has been without a permanent chieft since Daryl Boy-kins was demoted in March, but that's soon to change. Michiana residents got a chance to voice their opinion during a public forum Thursday. They gave their thoughts on how South Bend should go about finding a new police chief.

A man dressed in a Batman costume is behind bars for interrupting Michigan police. Officials say Mark Wayne Williams showed up at a scene wearing a Batman costume where officials were working..and when Batman was asked to leave, he refused.

Bethel College students took time away from their studies and rolled up their sleeves to help save lives. Student athletes teamed up with the American Red Cross Thursday to donate blood. Red Cross officials say each donation can help save up to three lives.

NORTHCENTRAL INDIANA

A rededication ceremony is planned for Saturday in Terre Haute for a limestone monument honoring Vietnam War veterans. A campaign this year raised 18-thousand dollars to move the monument, so now the ceremony will be at 10 a.m. at the Vigo County Courthouse Saturday.

If you'd like to help these top dogs, they'll give you hot dogs! A fundraiser is planned this weekend for Terre Haute's Police K-9 unit. "Hot Dogs for the Top Dogs" will be this Sunday between noon and 4pm on State Road 46.

SPORTS

The Colts have made a way for you to show support for their head coach. Chuck Pagano was recently diagnosed with leukemia so now the team is inviting fans to help him through the CHUCKSTRONG campaign. The team will have availabe CHUCK-STRONG t-shirts by 4pm today.
