NATIONAL:

Several Christians in California are celebrating over a bill that was vetoed. The governor of California denied to sign a bill that would have allowed judges to rule that a child can have more than two parents. Bill 1476 was introduced by the Democratic State Senator and supported by various gay rights groups.

Good news..The megachurch pastor, Rick Warren is doing much better. Warren was hospitalized after experiencing pain in his arms and numbness in his fingers. The pastor underwent a series of tests to determine what the cause is.

You'd be surprised at the impact a Facebook photo can have on a community.. Thousands of Bangladeshi Muslims set fire to at least 10 Buddhist temples and 40 homes in anger over the Facebook photo of a burned Quran. Security officers were able to control the situation.

An American Airlines flight from Chicago made an emergency landing in St. Louis Monday morning. The plane was on its way to Dallas when the co-pilot became ill during the flight.. Paramedics treated the pilot after the plane landed. No one was injured.

STATE/REGIONAL:

Federal Reserve Chairman visited Indy on Monday..Ben Bernanke told an Indianapolis audience that inflation is under control and that the banking system has been stabilized. Bernanke also rejected the criticism that the Fed is helping to enable deficit-spending by Congress and the White House by making debt cheap.

Believe it or not, Indiana is still in drought conditions. The National Weather Service says even though Indiana has gotten plenty of rain in recent weeks, the state is still 4 inches short of rain for the year.

If you've have popcorn that you bought from the "Popcorn Indiana" company, throw it away or return it. "Popcorn Indiana" is recalling the ready-to-eat bags becuase of possible Listeria contamination.

NORTHERN INDIANA/SOUTHWEST MI, (MICHIANA)

A new payment option by NIPSCO could help your budget.. The company is offering a Price Protection Service which allows customers to lock in their commodity rate for an entire year. Right now, the rate is about 55 cents per therm..but those who go with this new program, will not see an increase in therm rate.

UPDATE: Police say a man who had a high blood alcohol level caused Monday's buggy accident in Warsaw. Officials say the 24 year old driver of the car, Fransisco Gonzalez, was treated and then taken into custody. The buggy passengers only suffered minor injuries.

Police have identified the man who was killed in a sad accidental tragedy.. 28 year old of Rochester, Kenneth Moore was a U.S Marine. DNR officials say Moore was hunting with a group of friends, when a 12 year old of the group accidentally fired at the Marine. Authorities are investigating the case.

Watch out for a scam that offers work-from-home-jobs. The Better Business Bureau of Indiana says scammers are advertising a confidential job for people in the Indiana/Michigan area..the scammers will ask for your personal information to supposedly get you started.

Cooler weather and flu shots go hand in hand.. that's why the St. Joseph County Health Department will have its first drive-through flu vaccine clinic of the year. They'll be at Clay Fire Station 1 in South Bend today from 2-6pm.

A news release says shots cost $25 each and are payable by cash or Medicare Part B only.

Other locations:

From 2 to 6 p.m. Oct. 11 at South Bend Central Fire Station, 1222 S Michigan St. (next to Ivy Tech Community College).

From 3 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Mishawaka Fire Department's Douglas Road Station at 333 Douglas Road, Mishawaka.

NORTHCENTRAL INDIANA:

Indiana University Kokomo has a new chancellor..for the meantime. School officials appointed Sue Sciame-Giesecke as a temporary chancellor after Michael Harris's resignation. Sue tells the Kokomo Tribune that IU Kokomo will continue to push the school to be successful.

Kokomo's mayor wants keep the economy up and going.. Mayor Greg Goodnight announced Monday that the city of Kokomo will partner with Kokomo Grain on a rail project to keep jobs in the city and provide better transportation for business. The project will connect two rail lines.

Hamilton County kicked off a pretty big job fair this morning. More than 80 companies are looking to hire residents at the Hamilton County 4-H Fairgrounds. Last year, more than 900 job seekers attended the fair.

SPORTS:

You'll want to keep Chuck Pagano in your prayers.. Doctors diagnosed the Colts head coach with leukemia. The Colts announced that the 51-year-old had been feeling fatigued and noticed bruising on his body. Pagano is expected to miss at least six weeks of the season while he receives treatment.
