Thanks to money from the lease of the Indiana Toll Road, a major highway in Elkhart County is about to be expanded. The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced a partnership with the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce to widen nearly three miles of U.S. 20, stretching from the end of the existing four-lane bypass at County Road 17 on Elkhart's far southeast side to State Road 15. That project was supposed to start in 2015, but INDOT is moving up the work. Next week, the state will seek bids on the project.
