Over Thanksgiving 2004 WFRN's main antenna was damaged in a "thundersnow" storm. We don't know exactly what happened over 480ft above the ground, but we do know that it effectively put the flagship station off the air.

A temporary antenna was installed as soon as possible and we returned to the air late on Friday afternoon at a reduced power. Within the next couple of days some adjustments were made to increase the power. Reduced power means listeners further away from Elkhart cannot hear 104.7 FM.

Although not everything went smoothly we were blessed by good weather. While nearby counties were buried in snow, Elkhart barely saw snow during the construction days and had no snow accumulation nor freezing rain. Our prayers and the prayers of listeners were answered!

Here are a few photos of the efforts made to return WFRN to the air.

Our tower and ground crew was (left to right) Tyler Callis from Texas; Jim Hulse of Towers for Jesus in Plymouth, Indiana; Bob Maier from Wisconsin; Craig Gilbert from California; and Bob's nephew Kevin.
